Arizona is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is the 6th largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its' capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona, the Grand Canyon state, achieved statehood on February 14, 1912, the last of the 48 coterminous United States to be admitted to the union.

Arizona is a haven for doing: golfing, hiking, and rafting, but it's also one of the best destinations for relaxing. Its' spas are world-renowned and offer treatments ranging from massages to facials. There are ski resorts in the areas of Flagstaff and Tucson. In addition to the internationally known Grand Canyon National Park, there are national forests, national parks, and national monuments.

The state of Arizona is one that features a fantastic diversity of landscapes and areas of geological interest. In many ways, the beauty of Arizona is embodied by its most famous natural landmark, the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon, a colorful chasm with steep rocky walls more than a mile deep and stretching some 277 miles alongside the Colorado River.

Like the Grand Canyon itself, Arizona is vast and ancient, a panorama of stunning color and fascinating geology, with a history defined by American Indians and larger-than-life adventurers. Arizona has the greatest percentage of its acreage designated as Indian tribal land in the United States.

Navajo Indians from Arizona were enlisted to transmit secret communications for the U.S. Marines after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941. Known as Navajo Code Talkers, these young men created an oral code the enemy was unable to decipher, fulfilling a crucial role during World War II and saving countless lives.

Tucson, Arizona is home to the nation's largest cacti. The giant saguaro is the universal symbol of the American west. These majestic plants, found only in a small portion of the United States, are protected by Saguaro National Park, to the east and west of the modern city of Tucson.
